Monthly Photographic Challenge
2020 was a difficult year for all of us and although as artists we mainly work remotely, solitary, even if we have a ‘day job’ or work in the community, delivering workshops and projects, our own work is produced in isolation, even before the word became trendy, due to covid-19, which has brought its own challenges to artists.
To overcome this isolation, artists often form or join groups, to work together putting on exhibitions. As a group, 6 Women Alliance choose to work toward a common goal, an exhibition with a theme related to the house and so we have found it useful to meet regularly, once a month, aside from the social aspect of being with other people, we discuss how our individual pieces are coming along, or not! offer each other support and ideas, often going off on tangents, but always coming away, buzzing and finding ourselves reinvigorated to produce something.
Covid-19, lockdown and social distancing rules, made meeting up as a group impossible since March, in fact we had to cancel our March meeting, however we have kept in touch by email, sending interesting and funny (art) articles in the papers, photos of work in progress, as we adapted to this strange and surreal year, more recently we decided to have a monthly in group photo challenge on a theme, which seems to have ended up being seasonal but is always the same criteria that it must be house related in some way, however tenuous, the more surreal the better, oh and by the way did I mention as a group we are house obsessed?! our exhibitions revolve around the house as a theme, for the house is a conduit for our lives and Covid-19 has meant that the house has became more of a refuge or a prison than ever, something that may come out in future work, but that's another blog...
Here are a few interpretations of our themes, September – New Form, October – Gothic and November – Burning, find more and follow us on Instagram @6womanalliance
